Hinsdale Hospital Announces New CEO

 is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael J. Goebel as chief executive officer. Goebel, 52, of Hinsdale, comes to this new role with more than 20 years of executive-level healthcare experience, most recently as the hospital’s vice president and chief operating officer.

Prior to Goebel’s promotion, which is effective immediately, David L. Crane served in a dual capacity as chief executive officer of both Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and Adventist Midwest Health. Crane now re-assumes the position of president and CEO of Adventist Midwest Health, comprised of the four suburban Chicago hospitals of Adventist Hinsdale, Adventist Bolingbrook, Adventist GlenOaks and Adventist La Grange Memorial hospitals and Chippewa Valley Hospital in Durand, Wisc.

Goebel has served as Adventist Hinsdale Hospital’s COO since March 2010. In that time, he has demonstrated visionary leadership, Crane said. His accomplishments have included leading Adventist Hinsdale Hospital through an organizational assessment, a strategic planning process and a major construction project (with the anticipated 2012 opening of the hospital’s new patient pavilion). He also worked closely with the hospital’s surgery leadership to improve surgical services and recruited process improvement expertise.

In his new role as CEO, Goebel assumes responsibility for overseeing Adventist Hinsdale Hospital’s day-to-day operations, leading the hospital’s strategic vision and strategy, managing operational results and culture transformation, driving growth and operational improvement, enhancing medical staff relationships, growth and improvement in physician engagement, and building relationships with community leaders and other stakeholders.

“Adventist Hinsdale Hospital has a solid foundation and bright future,” Goebel said. “With support from our community, physician partners and staff, I look forward to leading our hospital as we continue improving upon our successes.”

Goebel came to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital from Littleton Adventist Hospital in Colorado, where he was chief operating officer. Prior to that, he was CFO at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb. Both hospitals are tertiary trauma centers.  

Goebel has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Union College in Lincoln, Neb., and a master’s degree in of business administration from Keller Graduate School of Management in Chicago. He and his wife, Lori, live in Hinsdale and have two daughters, Lauren and McKenzie, both of whom attend .
