18-Year-Old Shot and Killed in Unincorporated Willowbrook

Joshua Holmes, 18, was shot near the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose Lane and Lilac Lane at approximately 6:35 p.m. Monday night.

An 18-year-old man was shot and killed Monday night near the intersection of Honeysuckle Rose and Lilac lanes in unincorporated Willowbrook, according to a release from the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's officers responded at approximately 6:35 p.m. to a report of gun shots being fired in the area, the release reads. The sheriff's office cites witnesses who said they saw a handgun fire several shots from a white four-door vehicle that had approached the intersection.

The victim was Joshua Holmes, who lived nearby on Honeysuckle Rose. He was transported to Adventist Hinsdale Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

"Sheriff’s detectives are investigating leads and it appears that Holmes was targeted and there is no information to indicate that the community is in danger," the release reads. "Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office at 630-407-2400."

According to court documents, Holmes had previous run-ins with the law. He was scheduled to appear Oct. 16 in DuPage County Court on charges of manufacturing/delivering cannabis and possession of cannabis, stemming from an arrest in Westmont. On Oct. 10, Holmes was scheduled to appear on charges of retail theft and obstructing identification, stemming from an arrest in Downers Grove.

Last year, Holmes pleaded guilty to a burglary charge, stemming from an arrest in Warrenville. As part of the deal, he was placed on probation and required to take part in the Sheriff's Alternative Work Program for 20 days.
