Elm School Hosts Civil War Week, A 20-Year Tradition

Elm School recently hosted its annual Civil War Week for fifth graders. Following a tradition of nearly two decades, students are immersed in Civil War history lessons. With assigned names and ranks, students learned about the era through a variety of study topics, ranging from common medical conditions to the type of photography equipment used during that time. Students also learned the basics of saluting, marching and camp life and heard from a Civil War re-enactor. Their knowledge was put to the test with jeopardy-style trivia and rewarded with a meal of cornbread flapjacks. The week ended on March 15 with the conclusion of the war and reveal of a secret spy.
