District 181 Board Approves Justin Horne as Monroe School Principal

On June 24, 2013, the Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education approved the hiring of Justin Horne as the Monroe School Principal, effective July 1, 2013.

Horne joined District 181 in the 2004-2005 school year as a 4th grade teacher at The Lane School. In the following school year, he moved to 5th grade at The Lane and has stayed in that position. In 2009, he earned the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification, the highest recognition for teaching excellence. Horne served as the President of the Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Teachers’ Association from 2009-10 through 2011-12. Additionally, he has served on the District’s finance and insurance committees and has been the head basketball coach at Clarendon Hills Middle School for the last eight years.

Horne is currently a Board of Education member for Immanuel Lutheran School in Elmhurst and is the owner and director of Just Hoops, a summer basketball camp for middle school aged children in Hinsdale. His education includes a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Loyola University and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

“I am extremely honored to serve the students, parents, and staff of Monroe School,” he said. “Each role that I’ve taken in my career has been to become a better educator and impact student learning in a positive manner. With an all-star staff and supportive parent network, along with the outstanding momentum Ms. Benaitis has started, I know students will continue to grow and be successful at Monroe. I look forward to forming long-lasting relationships with the Monroe community in the years to come.”

Horne’s wife Becky is a Manager for Allstate in their Claims Technology Department. They reside in Elmhurst with their two children, Nathaniel (4), and Catherine (4 months). “I’ve cherished my time being a stay at home parent during the summer weeks. It helps to ground me and give me perspective about what is most important - our children’s future.”

Superintendent Dr. Renée Schuster commented, “Mr. Horne is an exceptional educator who demonstrates outstanding leadership skills, a child-centered focus, and a commitment to Monroe School.”
