District 181 Board Approves Joni Sherman as Clarendon Hills Middle School Assistant Principal

On June 24, 2013, the Community Consolidated School District 181 Board of Education approved the hiring of Joni L. Sherman as the Clarendon Hills Middle School Assistant Principal, effective July 1, 2013. Sherman will fill the vacancy of Eric Chisausky, who was named Principal of Walker School in District 181, also effective July 1.

Sherman was most recently the Assistant Principal of Pleasantdale Middle School in Pleasantdale District 107 in Burr Ridge. There, she conducted staff evaluations, used data to make curriculum decisions and determine student placements, created the school’s master schedule and coordinated the District’s summer school program. Sherman previously served as Assistant Principal of Congress Park Elementary in LaGrange District 102. In the same district, Sherman had served as a math content specialist, a sixth grade teacher, and a fourth grade teacher.

Sherman’s education includes a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Technology from Benedictine University and a Bachelor’s degree as a Teacher of Education in Mathematics from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She additionally has a Certificate of Advanced Study from the University of Illinois in Educational Leadership and Organization.

She commented: “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to join the administrative team at District 181. I look forward to working with the District in its vision of helping all students experience success and grow in excellence. During the interview process, I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the staff at Clarendon Hills Middle School. I am excited to get to know the students and families of CHMS and to help all students experience success both academically and socially.”

Sherman lives in La Grange with her husband, Bob, who teaches Physics at Lyons Township High School.  They have two children: Andrew (5) and Benjamin (3). 

Clarendon Hills Middle School Principal Griffin Sonntag commented, “Mrs. Sherman is a passionate, educational leader who excels at building relationships with all stakeholders. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our school community that will benefit the students of Clarendon Hills Middle School for years to come." Superintendent Dr. Renée Schuster shared her support for Sherman as well, commenting that she is “a proven leader with expertise in the improvement of instruction, particularly in the area of mathematics.”
