On December 5, students from Madison School’s Kids Care Club sorted more than 200 holiday gifts for 18 local families in need. Gifts included toys, clothes, gift cards, sports equipment and infant essentials. The school sponsors these families through the Community Holiday Gifts project, a community outreach effort spearheaded by HCS Family Services. HCS Family Services is a not-for-profit organization that has been serving the residents of Southeast DuPage County since 1937 with the goals of preventing homelessness and food insecurity and helping low-income individuals achieve sustained economic self-sufficiency and improved quality of life.

Madison School students and families purchased, donated and wrapped the gifts, which were picked up on December 15. Planning for the project has been underway since October, organizers note, to create an abundant holiday for the sponsored families. In addition to gifts for both children and adults, the families received grocery gift cards for the purchase of a holiday meal. The Madison School Kids Care Club made holiday cards and stuffed stockings for the children who will receive the gifts.
