In the September 2012 issue of Chicago Magazine, Community Consolidated School District 181 schools captured seven of the top ten listings for the Best Elementary Schools in DuPage County. According to the article[1], Chicago Magazine used data from the most recent school report cards and assigned points to each public school in the metro area based on how well it compared to its peers on three key measures for elementary institutions: spending per pupil (25% of score), pupil-teacher ratio (25% of score), and the percentage of students who met or exceeded state standards on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test (50% of score).
District 181 schools listed in the top spots were: Clarendon Hills Middle Schools, Hinsdale Middle School, The Lane, Monroe, Walker, Prospect, and Madison. Madison was specially featured in the article; Principal Mindy McMahon highlighted the school’s monthly all-school meeting as a program that guides the sense of community at Madison.
Superintendent Dr. Renée Schuster remarks, “Each of our nine schools in District 181 is extraordinary. We have exceptional students, supportive parents and community members, strong leadership in our Board and administration, and talented staff members who are passionate about teaching and learning. This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication that goes into every day in District 181.”
