Fast Facts: The first of two supersectional games at Hinsdale Central on Monday, Montini is looking for a chance to become the first girls’ team to ever win four consecutive state championships. Ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 3A, the Broncos are led by Johnson, a 6-foot-4 Wisconsin recruit. The backcourt is loaded with juniors who are all getting college looks, as well. The Broncos’ only loss this season came back on Dec. 22 to Peoria Richwoods. Since Nichols took over the program in 2004, the Broncos have been a perennial powerhouse. His record over nine seasons is 272-41. During this state title streak, Montini is 135-10. The Broncos finished third in Class 3A in 2008. Phillips has had a surprising end to the season. The Wildcats had never won a regional or sectional title in their history until this season, and now find themselves a win away from a state berth. The Wildcats are a high-scoring veteran bunch, led by Jernigan (12.5 points per game), English (11.8), Jones (10.3) and Seaton (10).

Quotable: “We are playing good right now and are one win from returning to Redbird Arena (the site of the state finals next weekend),” Montini coach Jason Nichols said. “That is our goal and the only thing we are worried about presently.”
