Local Kitchen Designer selected for Design Symposium in Rome

The Chicago Italian Chamber of Commerce and Sviluppo Lazio are hosting a design symposium for Home, Office, & Italian Style to be held in Rome, Italy from May 12, 2103 to May 15, 2013.

Local kitchen & cabinetry designer, Cheryl Daugvila, owner of Cheryl D &
Company of La Grange IL was selected as 1 of 5 professionals who will take part in workshops, business meetings, and tours of various Italian companies related to the design, architectural, and construction industry.

“I am very honored to be part of this group and look forward to the design
inspirations I can relate, discuss, and also bring back home with me.”  Daugvila said.  “Italy is one of the top universal design influencers in my industry for cabinetry and furniture.  The current contemporary trends along with traditional classic designs are part of my business everyday.”   When designing a kitchen, bathroom, or built-in furniture, Daugvila often references Italian cabinet & furniture manufacturers for ideas and inspirations within the designs she creates for her clients.  “The Italians are passionate about detail and quality. The feeling  a well designed room can create is always exciting to me when my clients really get it and they enjoy their new kitchen immensely.”  she added.

Daugvila will be joining Peter Exley, President of the AIA (American Institute of
Architects),  Rick Curto, Real Estate developer and owner of RSC Real Estate, Valentina Gaglio, Architect at Eifler & Associates, and Claudio Balbo, General
Manager of American Granite, on her trip to Rome. Their tour will involve visiting the cluster of Civita Castellana & Pomezia area for design companies and
showrooms, along with the Travertino Caves in Tivoli, which is the quarry where the Romans mined the marble used to build the Coliseum.  Their tour will conclude with a panel discussion on Architecture and Design at the Sapienza University.

“Homeowners who have traveled extensively, especially internationally, bring home ideas from around the globe,” Daugvila explained. “They come back with memories of fine hotel bathrooms and European kitchens that are the center of home activity. They want to re-create that charming feel in their own homes and I will have first hand experience to help recreate the same feeling for their American homes.”
