Robert Crown Center Hires New Leader

The Robert Crown Center for Health Education announces the appointment of R.J. McMahon as its new chief executive officer.


R.J. McMahon has been appointed chief executive office of the Robert Crown Center for Health Education in Hinsdale.

McMahon is charged with leading the organization in its efforts to develop educational programs and teaching youth to lead safe, healthy and happy lives. His appointment was announced on Thursday.

"The Board of Directors looks forward to working with R.J,” said Pedro Menendez, chair of the center’s board of directors. “He will be an effective leader of Robert Crown and a passionate advocate for health education, energizing students, educators, parents, donors and the other organizations with whom we partner.”

McMahon is a seasoned leader who has 20 years of experience providing leadership and advocacy for educational nonprofit organizations, with extensive experience and knowledge of the development and marketing of educational programs. He is also skilled in board and resource development, according to the Robert Crown Center.

Before joining RCC, McMahon served as vice president, director of development for Fenwick High School in Oak Park. There he established highly successful constituent initiatives, restructured development operations and formalized key organizational structures, the center said.

He also served as director of external relations and director of development for Chicago International Charter School in Chicago, and has held senior positions for the St. Martin de Porres High School (Cristo Rey Network), Central Baptist Family Services, and Dominican University.

“I am extremely excited about joining the team at Robert Crown,” McMahon said in written statement. “The work that is being done to help educate the children of the Chicagoland area is essential to their personal growth and academic success, and to the future success of our communities.”

McMahon is a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago (MBA, Operations/Marketing), and Boston College (B.A. Economics).  He is the Chicago Region chair for Boston College, alumni admissions and a board member of the Peacebuilders Initiative, Bernardine Center Catholic Theological Union.

McMahon replaces Kathleen Burke, who resigned as the center’s CEO last fall, to pursue other opportunities, Hinsdale Doings reported.
