It probably shouldn't come as a shock that the winner of Patch's Readers' Choice award for best St. Patrick's Day celebration spot is the pub that, according to its website, is named after an Irishman who "played his Uilleann pipes in the countryside around Ballybunion and in the Castle Green in County Kerry."
Indeed, on St. Paddy's Eve, Patch announces that The Kerry Piper in Willowbrook after accumulating 50 percent of the votes.
The pub, located at 7900 Joliet Rd., beat out in Hinsdale, and in Clarendon Hills, and York Tavern in Oak Brook, which between them evenly split the remaining 50 percent.
The Kerry Piper is a cottage-style Irish pub that, again according to its website, had its interior designed by the Irish Pub Company of Dublin. The pub is open 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
Most importantly, however, The Kerry Piper keeps a running clock counting down the seconds to St. Patrick's Day. As of press time, that clock has 8 hours, 21 minutes, and 55 seconds.
Happy St. Paddy's, everyone! Sláinte!
