Hinsdale Sports Bar, Garfield Crossing Development on Board Agenda

The Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees is expected to make a pair of votes relevant to the downtown business district Tuesday night.

The Village of Hinsdale Board of Trustees is expected to vote on a modification to the liquor code that could clear the way for a downtown sports bar at the same Tuesday night meeting it's set to vote on the site plan and exterior appearance of a major new development.

Village officials have laid out two possible liquor-code modifications that seek to accommodate the request of Doug Fuller and Jim Carlstrom, who want to open a family-friendly sports bar in part of the Fuller's Home & Hardware space, for longer service hours.

One option, according to Tuesday night's agenda packet, are to extend liquor-service hours for all full-service restaurants in the village from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weeknights and from 12 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on weekends.

The second option is to offer the additional service time to restaurants willing to pay a premium.

Fuller and Carlstrom, who came to the board's Administration and Community Affairs (ACA) Committee earlier this month and asked that liquor-service hours be extended to 12 a.m. on weeknights and 1 a.m. on weekends, want to open Fullersburg Grill in the southernmost portion of the hardware store along 1st Street.

Carlstrom told trustees on the ACA committee that the current liquor-service hours would be a "deal-breaker."

Also Tuesday night, village trustees will vote on the site plan and exterior appearance of the two-story Garfield Crossing development planned for the southwest corner of Garfield and 1st streets.

The development at 26-32 E. 1st Street would feature retail space on the first floor and a combination of retail and office space on the second floor. A parking lot on the site would have 46 spaces, five more than the current lot contains.

The Village of Hinsdale Plan Commission voted on April 10 to recommend approval of the site plan and exterior appearance, minus the second-story signage proposed by the developer.
