Hinsdale shoppers will be able to enjoy the sunshine while they shop this weekend. The village's annual Sidewalk Sale, which features sales and specials from village merchants, will kick off at 9 a.m. Friday and run through 5 p.m. Saturday.
"It's a long-standing sale," said Eva Field, assistant director of the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce, the organization that puts on the event. "It brings in a lot of people. We get calls from people starting at the end of June wondering when the [Sidewalk] Sale is."
This year, 35 merchants will be participating in the Sidewalk Sale, including restaurants. Each business provides its own discount, and many businesses hope to draw in new customers.
One of Hinsdale's newest boutiques, QT, will be offering 20 percent off items such as picture frames, wedding albums, wallets, pet items, and baby clothes.
Since this is QT's first year participating in the Sidewalk Sale, employee Mary Lou McCollum hopes it will encourage people to "turn the corner off of Washington" to check out the shop.
"We're very excited to participate," McCollum said. "[The sale] gives the people in town a chance to see our store."
Even though participated in the sale last year, they also hope to appeal to new customers. The gluten-free bakery will be offering a two-for-one cookie special, and will also be selling bake ware.
"We hope that people will stop by out front, and then come inside," employee Karrie Kummerer said. "It's going to be a great weather day, and we'll be there to talk to people who have questions about gluten-free."
The Sidewalk Sale will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 15, and Saturday, July 16. For more information, contact the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce at 630.323.3952, or visit their website.
