Hinsdale's Savory Spice Shop Closes Its Doors

The store was open for 19 months in the heart of downtown Hinsdale at 42 S. Washington St.

Savory Spice Shop in downtown Hinsdale closed at the end of April, according to the store's Facebook page

The store at 42 S. Washington St. was in business for 19 months after opening in October 2011 and holding its grand opening the following November. Savory Spice Shop's phone was disconnected when Patch called, and an email to owner David Trout has not been returned.

The following message was posted on Savory Spice Shop's Facebook page April 30:

Instead let's say until we meet again! Today we open our doors for the last time in Hinsdale. Two new locations are scheduled to open in Chicagoland in 2013. Lincoln Square (4753 N. Lincoln) opens its doors mid-summer in Chicago while a second location in the northern suburbs opens later in the year. Thanks for your friendship. Eat well.

Tim Scott, Hinsdale's director of economic development, did not speculate on why the store closed. He said he already has one prospective tenant interested in the space, which has an "appealing" location and "fairly desirable" size.

"I connected them with the property owner and remain in touch with the parties," Scott wrote in an email. "Timing may prove to be a challenge."

At the time David Trout and his wife Darice opened their franchise, it was one of 15 Savory Spice Shops in the U.S. There are 25 in the country now, according to Savory Spice Shop's website.
