How did the business come to be?

The Courtyard, a non-profit consignment shop, was started in 1991 by a small group of volunteers as a way to provide financial support to the then newly-established Wellness House whose mission is to support families whose lives have been affected by cancer.

What is your business best known for?

The Courtyard is an upscale non-profit consignment shop known for high end furnishings, artwork, and antiques from local Hinsdale estates. It provides high-quality, unique items at outstanding values which benefit Wellness House. It provides a place for volunteers and local residents to make a real difference in their local community. 

How did you choose the area you did for your business?

The Courtyard was created to support Wellness House located in Hinsdale. 

What is something most people don’t know about your business?

The Courtyard is an unique enterprise, fueled by word-of-mouth and a very loyal following within the local community. Among those in the know, every Tuesday morning provides a new treasure hunt to its customers. An experience you can't find at chain stores or on the web. New merchandise arrives every Monday. The store is completely re-designed every Monday. It is a different experience every week of the year. Also, off the beaten path it is a little difficult to find. We are hoping to spread the word and not be the best kept secret in town! 

Does your business offer a special deals card or program?

Throughout the year The Courtyard holds seasonal fundraising sales and events.
