Fox's On York Expected to Open Soon in Hinsdale

The restaurant's management says it's aiming for a late May or early June opening.

Nearly a year after the plan for a new Fox’s location in Hinsdale was announced, its opening appears to be approaching.

Fox’s On York is aiming for a late May or early June opening at Gateway Square in Hinsdale, according to director of operations Jane Wilke. Wilke, who will oversee the new Hinsdale location in addition to the existing Orland Park and Mokena restaurants, said interior improvements are ongoing at the two-level space where Quizno’s and a hair salon once operated in the shopping center.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Wilke said of the opening. “It’s going to be a beautiful location.”

Fox’s received village approval last June to turn the Gateway Square space into the newest edition of the South Side chain, known for its pizza and lively atmosphere. But the business did not until more recently obtain a building permit, following the addition of necessary life safety and accessibility features to the space, Hinsdale community development director Tim Scott said.

An elevator inside and a rear staircase outside were the improvements needed.

“Getting the building up to modern code for accessibility and life safety,” Scott said. “That is what took the additional time.”

Owner Frank Fox said in May 2012 he had been looking to open a Hinsdale location for several years due to the village's large number of transplanted South Siders.

"When I saw [the Gateway Square location], I felt like it fit like a glove," Fox said. "It felt really good and I wanted to make it happen."

Fox's menu ranges from Italian beef and Reuben sandwiches, to spaghetti, to pork chops, to fish. The chain's signature dish, though, is its pizza.

"Only thin crust," Fox told the village’s plan commission last year.

The restaurant will have two levels. The kitchen and a dining area will take up the first floor, while another larger dining area will reside on the second floor.

Fox's also plans on utilizing the existing patio on the second floor for additional seating during warm-weather months, and live entertainment will be featured some nights inside the restaurant.

Wilke said the location of the Hinsdale restaurant in Gateway Square and the second-floor patio are unlike the other Fox's locations.

“That’ll be pretty unique,” she said.

And though the village did not allow for a pick-up spot in the rear of the space, Wilke said employees will run orders out to takeout customers in the Gateway Square parking lot.

Wilke said Fox’s plans on hiring all positions for the new restaurant some time in May. She said anyone interested in applying can email her at janemwilke@comcast.net, or call the Orland Park location at 708-349-2111. Résumés are accepted but not mandatory.
