Downtown Hinsdale Shakeup: Busters Out, 2 New Businesses In

A hair products store and a salon for kids plan on opening on 1st Street in downtown Hinsdale this spring.

With one business closing, two more opening, one moving, and another expanding, Hinsdale's business center is getting a mini-makeover this spring and summer.

Busters, the specialty pet food store at 22 E. 1st St., is closing its doors with the retirement of owner Judy Scapin, Village of Hinsdale community development director Tim Scott said, and Drapery Connection will leave its 26 W. Chicago location to take over the space, likely by May 1.

An existing business near the Drapery Connection's current location is planning to expand to fill the 26 W. Chicago space, Scott said.

Scott said Scapin, of Busters, will be missed.

"She’s been a great addition to the village. Her store was a nice compliment to the other specialty stores in town," he said.

Busters' phone had been disconnected when Patch called seeking comment Thursday.

Meanwhile, a pair of hair-related ventures are getting set to open in the former Air Fitness location at 5-7 E. 1st St.

The owners of Ashley’s Hair Supplies, a retail shop, and ABC Cuts, a hair salon for children, are currently going through the process of making improvements to the space Air Fitness left in 2012 when it became Spark Fitness and moved to Gateway Square.

Scott said the two new ventures, expected to open by early June, are owned by the same partners, one of whom is affiliated with The Salon By David & William at 54 S. Washington St.

"They have great familiarity with the local market," Scott said.

The community development director said a spring business shuffle like this in the early months of the year is not surprising.

"There is a post-holiday period in time where people start looking and start getting ready to launch their new ventures," Scott said.
