All Wined Up in Clarendon Hills to Close By End of 2013

The wine shop and bar has operated on Prospect Street in downtown Clarendon Hills since 2009.

All Wined Up in Clarendon Hills will be closed by the end of December, owner Terrie Walker said Tuesday.

The wine shop and bar has been at 27 S. Prospect Ave. in downtown Clarendon Hills since December 2009, but difficulty bringing in a consistent flow of customers led to Walker’s decision not to renew her lease for the space at the end of the year.

All Wined Up will operate as normal in October and November before beginning the closing process in December. A last day of business has not yet been determined.

“It’s really been a hard, really emotional decision,” Walker said. “But ultimately it comes down to primarily a financial one.”

Some nights the place is packed, she said, but others are “super-slow.” Walker said her Clarendon Hills customers are “great, loyal customers,” but there simply are not enough of them.

“It’s not steady enough. Financially, that’s just not working,” Walker said.

The Lisle resident has attempted to bring in a clientele outside Clarendon Hills through out-of-town advertising, but it hasn’t translated into new foot traffic.

Another issue for Walker and her husband Brian has been a change in All Wined Up’s primary business. They began emphasizing the retail, but the bar has since emerged as more lucrative.

“That’s a whole [different] life; it’s difficult,” Walker said.

All Wined Up’s regular customers and village officials have been notified. While those who know have expressed sadness about the closing, Walker said customers shouldn’t get down yet, as they can come in over the next two months as they normally do and enjoy the same weekly events.

How December will go has not yet been finalized, but Walker said one thing is for sure.

“We’ve got a lot of wine to drink and we’re going to have a hell of a going away party,” Walker said.
