2 Downtown Clarendon Hills Construction Projects Set for August

August will be a busy construction month in downtown Clarendon Hills.

Village staff announced in a press release this week that the repaving of the Metra station’s parking lot, which is in “a state of disprepair” and improvements to the Prospect Avenue railroad crossing will both take place next month, leading to a shutdown of the parking lot for two weeks and the crossing for 10 days. 

The parking lot project, two-thirds of which is being paid for with a grant from West Suburban Mass Transit, will force commuters with Metra station parking permits to park elsewhere. The village is negotiating for an alternative lot on the vacant property at the corner of Walker and Park avenues.

“Permit holders will also be encouraged to utilize unused meter spots on Burlington and Railroad Avenues during this period,” the release reads.

The Prospect crossing project is being conducted by BNSF in late August. Concrete will replace the current rubber pad.

“Per BNSF, there is no way to maintain even one lane of traffic during this process,” the release reads. “All vehicular traffic will be rerouted to Cass Avenue and/or Hinsdale during the project. Pedestrian access will also be limited to the pedestrian crossing east of Prospect Avenue near the station building.”

The village is meeting with downtown business owners on July 29 to figure out how to best accommodate residents and business owners during the projects.
