Hinsdale Central's Class of 2013 Graduates

The night featured all the usual commencement must-haves while also standing out for a couple of different reasons.

The commencement ceremony for Hinsdale Central's Class of 2013 took place Thursday night in the high school's gym.

The night featured the traditional student speakers, "Pomp and Circumstance," and giant mortarboard toss.

But this year's ceremony was especially unique for two reasons:

  1. Hinsdale Central student Andrew Park, who died of leukemia last year as a junior, would have graduated Thursday night. His name was called during the presentation of diplomas, and his family received a standing ovation from the crowd.
  2. It was Principal Mike McGrory's final commencement at Hinsdale Central. He accepted a principal job in his home state of Iowa earlier this year.
Flip through the photos above for a few captured moments from Thursday night's ceremony.
