Hinsdale PD Targets Cell-Phone-Users, Speeders in School Zones

The department's back-to-school traffic enforcement initiative will begin Sept. 7.

The following is a release from the Hinsdale Police Department:

The Hinsdale Police Department will be conducting special traffic enforcement initiative in school zones at various locations throughout the village beginning Sept. 7. The purpose of this selective enforcement will be to increase driver awareness of cell phone prohibitions in school zones, school zone speed limits, stop sign obedience, and other traffic and parking violations that inhibit the safety of pedestrians and other motorists.

As summer has ended and school is back in session, drivers tend to forget the purpose of the school zone signs that they passed during the empty summer months.  Marked and unmarked patrol vehicles will be positioned within the areas to not only serve as a visible reminder, but to cite violators.  Traffic violations such as passing stopped school buses, child safety seat violations and seat belt use, will also be addressed during this time.

At this time, there are multiple construction projects in progress in the Village of Hinsdale that may affect motorist’s travel routes near schools.  The police department reminds motorists to provide ample time to arrive at your destination safely, and to use caution in all construction areas for the safety of workers, pedestrians, motorists, and all other roadway users.
