Searching for Peabody's Tomb

Join the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and First Folio Theatre for “Searching for Peabody’s Tomb,” an interactive Halloween experience at Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook.

“Searching for Peabody’s Tomb” runs Oct. 19 – 30 from 7 to 10 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and from 7 to 10:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. On Oct. 31, the show runs from 7 p.m. to midnight for truly spooky Halloween experiences. Show times will begin every half hour.

Follow the mansion’s ghostly butler as he guides you through historic Mayslake Hall in search of the spirit of F.S. Peabody, the coal millionaire who built the mansion in 1921. Along the way, encounter spirits from Mr. Peabody’s family, the mansion staff and the specters of the Franciscan monks who inhabited the mansion for six decades.

Directed by Alison C. Vesely and written by Chrissie Howorth, “Searching for Peabody’s Tomb” is not a typical haunted house but rather an eerie homage to both Mr. Peabody and the Franciscan monks who lived at Mayslake.

“For decades residents of the western suburbs have tried to delve into the corners of the estate on dark evenings in an effort to test the truth of ghostly rumors,” says playwright Howorth. “Now they have a chance to experience the mansion for themselves at the perfect time of the year for apparitions to appear and mysterious spirits to manifest.”
