Chicago Philharmonic at Union Church: Pride of Nations

The award-winning Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players will return to Union Church of Hinsdale to present a concert titled Pride of Nations at 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2012.  This concert will be a celebration of folk songs from three world cultures.  Music inspired by Czech Dumka, Russian Hebrew themes and Mexican dance music will be featured.  This is the second concert in a series of three.

Guests will enjoy an exceptional classical music performance in the sublime atmosphere of Union Church of Hinsdale. The Chicago Philharmonic is made up primarily of Lyric Opera Orchestra members and other top-tier professional musicians from the Chicago area.

The musicians will perform Dvorak’s Piano Quintet for Strings and Piano a piece that was inspired by Czech Dumka folk songs.  They will also perform Mexican composer Arturo Marquez’s Zarabandeo for Clarinet and Piano.  Marquez is widely recognized as the most outstanding Mexican composer of his generation.  And from Russia, the players will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes which was influenced by traditional Jewish folksongs.

Performers include Mathias Tacke, Violin;  Karl Davies, Violin;  Matt Mantell Viola;  Andrew Snow, Cello;  Wagner Campos, Clarinet;  Beatriz Helguera, Piano.

The third concert in the Chicago Philharmonic at Union Church series will be Trio Mania on Sunday, March 11 at 3 p.m.  The concert will feature Claude Debussy’s Sonate en Trio for Flute , Viola and Harp and Charles Martin Loeffler’s Two Rhapsodies for Oboe, Viola and Piano.  Performing will be Donna Milanovich, Flute;  Timothy Sawyier, Oboe;  Hanah Stuart , Viola;  Stephen Hartman , Harp;  Jelena Dirks, Piano.

The concerts take place at Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield Ave. This program is sponsored in part by the Illinois Arts Council. Tickets for each concert are $15 in advance ($10 seniors 65 and up)/$20 at the door ($15 seniors 65 and up).
