Art for All Gala

MAYOR EMANUEL TO SERVE AS HONORARY CHAIR FOR ARTS EDUCATION GALA

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS  – Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel will serve as Honorary Chair of the Urban Gateways Art for All Gala to be held on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 6:00pm-9:00pm at Venue One in Chicago (1044 W Randolph).  This amazing, art-filled evening attracts more than 300 guests and an impressive line-up of performing artists to support Urban Gateways, one of the largest and most comprehensive arts education organizations in the country that has provided the arts to millions of Chicago’s youth over the past 50+ years.

The gala is organized by an Honorary and Advisory Committee including such prestigious area leaders as Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Nick & Susan Pritzker, Eric McKissack & Cheryl Mayberry McKissack, Jim & Kay Mabie, Ruth Horwich, and Dawoud Bey.

The evening will include cocktails, dinner, auction prizes and live performances by some of Chicago’s most renowned young artists including:

  • FootworKINGz (FWK), a dance crew founded by Urban Gateways teaching artist Leida "Lady Sol" Villegas . FWK has appeared in the top 20 of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent”, on MTV and Oprah Winfrey’s new Rosie Show;
  • Louder than a Bomb, spoken word artists from Chicago Young Authors who have competed in Louder Than a Bomb, the world’s largest poetry slam competition held annually in Chicago;
  • Elements Contemporary Ballet, Chicago’s bold new dance company combining the beauty of classical technique with contemporary style; and
  • Oliver Lubieres Trio, a Chicago-based jazz trio featuring Urban Gateways teaching artist Michael Riendeau.

Urban Gateways artists will also be featured in the silent auction with original works of art by Nicole Beck, Karolina Gnatowski, James Jankowiak, and Jeff Maldanado, as well as performance tickets, dance classes, and/or music packages from Chicago Human Rhthym Project, DanceWorks, May I Have This Dance, Mark Nichols, Piel Morena Contemporary Dance Company, and Tom Sharpe.

“We are honored to have the mayor and so many other notable Chicago leaders and artists supporting Urban Gateways on this special night. The arts have impacted all of our lives. Every child in Chicago deserves to feel that impact; every child deserves the arts. That’s what this event and this organization is all about,” said Urban Gateways’ new Executive Director Eric Delli Bovi.
