DuPage County Tourism Revenues at All-Time High: Report

Tourism revenues in DuPage County hit an all-time high in 2012, according to the the DuPage Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB).

According to the U.S. Travel Association and the State of Illinois Office of Tourism, visitors to DuPage County contributed $2.25 billion to the state’s economy last year, representing a 4.8 percent increase over the previous year’s revenue, DCVB officials said in a press release.

DuPage County continues to rank second only to Cook County for overall tourism expenditures, tourism industry payrolls, employment figures, and state and local tax revenues.

Last year, payrolls for DuPage County tourism reached over $569 million dollars, an increase of 4.2 percent, while the number of tourism-related jobs increased to 21,070, up 1.7 percent, officials said.

Tourism in DuPage County was responsible for a 4.8 percent increase, to $132.36 million, in state tax receipts over the previous year. Local tax receipts reached $37.36 million, a 6.3 percent increase.

“These record-breaking numbers support what we have seen,” said Skip Strittmatter, executive director of the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Visitors to the Chicago area recognize the value that DuPage County offers both the business and leisure traveler.”

Established in 198y by local hotel representative and business executives, the DuPage Convention and Visitors Bureau is responsible for promoting the county's multi-billion dollar tourism industry and enhancing economic development in the area.
