Hinsdale Center for the Arts Showcases Student Work

The latest exhibit features oils, acrylics, watercolors and charcoal.

Going on now and continuing through Oct. 2, people in Hinsdale can get a glimpse of the artistic talent in the area. "The Center of Our Imagination" features the work of 22 adult students of the Hinsdale Center for the Arts. A combination of oils, acrylics, watercolors and charcoal adorn the walls and show off the work of new artists who have been painting between one and eight years.

HCA executive director Thomas De Walle is proud of the work coming out of the art classes at the center.

"There seems to be a broadening audience to take on art classes," he said. De Walle believes adult classes are helping to expand multi-generational access to the arts. Children are in ballet classes upstairs, adults are in art classes and various ages are taking music lessons. "You can't get that in sports," De Walle added, explaining that various ages don't normally come together through sports as they do at the HCA.

The HCA has student art exhibition has been a feature of the center since 1988. We caught up with two of the artists whose work are featured, and asked them what their inspiration was. You can find out, here.

Coming up in the spring, a high school art show is scheduled. The Hinsdale Center for the Arts will select more than a dozen area high school students and display their work. Judges from the Art Institute of Chicago select the top four artists and review their portfolios.
