DOWNERS GROVE—Downers Grove Citibank Robbed by Man in Construction Gear—Police are searching for a man wearing an orange T-shirt, jeans and an orange construction helmet, who allegedly robbed Citibank, 5134 Main St., around 12:08 p.m. Wednesday.

WHEATON—Fire Doused at Wheaton North Thursday Morning—A small fire broke out in a science storeroom at Wheaton North High School before classes started Thursday morning. A few blocks away and 10 minutes later, a heavy fire started at a vacant house.

RIVER FOREST—U.S. Diplomat From River Forest Killed in Afghanistan—River Forest resident Anne Smedinghoff, 25, was one of five Americans killed last week during a car bombing in Afghanistan. She was killed along with three U.S. soldiers and a civilian employee while traveling to deliver books to a local school.

LA GRANGE—Man Killed by Freight Train Near La Grange Stone Avenue Station—The man appeared to have taken his own life by walking onto the tracks around 1 p.m. Thursday, police said.

HINSDALE—Missing Teen Faith Shirley Found Safe in Chicago—The 16-year-old from Florida went missing earlier this week from the Institute in Basic Life Principles in Hinsdale.

WESTERN SPRINGS—Real-Life Married Couple Star as Husband and Wife in New Theatre of Western Springs ShowStacy and Jason McCargo play Jessie Mae and Ludie Watts in the production of "Trip to Bountiful," which opened Thursday.

ST. CHARLESStrip Joint Near St. Charles May Close—The only strip joint in Kane County could close after county officials narrowly voted down a liquor license request by the two people who are considering buying it.

GENEVA—’My 8-Year-Old Goes to Bed Crying Every Night’—Moms in the Batavia Highlands neighborhood ask the Geneva School Board why they’ve been singled out for a school-boundary adjustment that would force their kids to switch grade schools.

BURR RIDGE—Neighbor Helps Resident Out Window During Fire Near Burr Ridge—The lone occupant of the house at the time of the fire was not injured, Tri-State Fire Protection District Chief Michelle Gibson said, but a dog inside died.

ELMHURST—The Waverton Hotel is Closing for Good—The beleaguered hotel, which has been the focus of increased police presence due to drugs, prostitution and other crimes, is scheduled to close April 14.
