We've got the best places in the area to spend a sunny afternoon this spring and summer.

Stough Park has something for everyone. An expansive lawn is the perfect place for a picnic blanket, but you can also sit on one of the benches underneath the park's shady trees. Younger kids can enjoy the park's playground and older ones will love the tennis courts. Stough Park is also the ideal walking or biking destination from both Clarendon Hills and Hinsdale.

Harvester Park is always full of activity. It's a great place to have a casual lunch on a busy summer day between your family's many activities. Two playgrounds, a football field, and tennis courts are perfect for kids, and a picnic shelter with bathrooms and vending machines is also available. You might want to wait until June so you can stop by the to pick up some farmers' market treats.

Burlington Park is the place to be during Hinsdale's summer months. The park, located just north of the Hinsdale train station, hosts events such as Uniquely Thursdays on summer nights, but it's also a nice place to relax during the day. Benches and walking paths surround the park's beautiful fountain, and it's just a short walk up the hill to the tables on the for the best view of downtown Hinsdale.
4. , 1 Park Ave., Clarendon Hills
Hosek is one of Clarendon Hills' family-friendly neighborhood parks. A baseball diamond and playground are perfect for kids, and the park's nine acres also features a basketball court and picnic pavilion. The park has lots of free parking nearby, and bathrooms on site as well.
5. , 5901 S. County Line Rd., Hinsdale
Katherine Legge's expansive, 52-acre grounds are the perfect place to spend a long, lazy Saturday. There are picnic pavilions as well as picnic tables, and plenty of paths to walk along after you eat. Katherine Legge features a playground and platform tennis courts, as well as other athletic fields. If you want to extend your trip into the evening hours, you can bring along your four-legged friends; from now through Oct. 31, dog-walking hours are 5 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
