Patch Picks: Five Family-Friendly Restaurants

We recommend these five restaurants when you're eating with the whole family.

Not all restaurants are ideal for kids and adults alike. Here are five in our area that are perfect for your family:

1. 50 S. Garfield St., Hinsdale

Kids don't always like to sit still during dinner. Luckily, Dips & Dogs offers the antidote to stuffy dinners. With outdoor dining and kid-friendly food like hot dogs, cheese fries, and ice cream, it's an ideal summer lunch spot. And outdoor games such like bags are the icing on the cake.

2. , 78 Burr Ridge Pkwy., Burr Ridge

Moondance is only open for breakfast and lunch, and its menu features inventive entrees like the Crabby Benny (crab cakes with poached eggs, avocado, tomato, and hollandaise sauce) and a Breakfast Burrito with chorizo. Moondance also offers calorie-conscious dishes like the Body Definition (an egg white omelette) so you can treat the kids to pancakes and still get a delicious and healthy breakfast.

3. , 510 Village Center Dr., Burr Ridge

Cooper's Hawk is ideal for pleasing a variety of palates. Diners can choose from chicken, pasta, beef, salads, and seafood, and Cooper's Hawk also has a gluten-free menu as well. Big families will love to share the appetizer sampler, and adults can indulge in wine from Cooper's Hawk's on-site winery.

4. , 8 E. First St., Hinsdale

Il Poggiolo is the place to go if you're craving Italian but don't want to spend a fortune. On Sundays, all kids ages 12 and under get a free pasta dinner. Kids can choose between penne alfredo, penne marinara, or penne with butter.

5. Redd Herring, 31 S. Prospect Ave., Clarendon Hills

Since chef Roger Herring's restaurant arrived in Clarendon Hills in November, it's added brunch to its comfort-food menu. Indulge in decadent dishes like eggs with grilled shrimp, or vanilla and honey-cream pancakes. Kids will also appreciate Redd Herring's most unique daily side dish: free cotton candy!
