Iditarod Veteran Huskies Adopted by Clarendon Hills Residents
Tom and Cheryl McGarrity opened up their home to Harley and Rosie, Alaskan huskies who both have run in the world's most famous dogsled race.
Two of the famed Alaskan huskies who have run the grueling Iditarod dogsled race—currently going on right now—found their retirement homes with a Clarendon Hills couple, the Doings Clarendon Hills reports.
According to the paper, racing dogs Harley (who passed away in Oct. 2010) and Rosie were taken in by Tom and Cheryl McGarrity, who attended the 2009 trip on an invitation from the College of DuPage.
“It was a wonderful experience, kind of like Mardi Gras in the frozen tundra,” Tom McGarrity told the paper. “We fell in love with the temperament of the dogs... They’re very peaceful, except when they are about to race, and then they get very excited.”

Sometimes the McGarritys also bring the dogs to Prospect School for students to learn about the Iditarod, the paper said.
