Darien Dash Street Closures and Race Route, Sunday May 18

The Darien Dash will be held this Sunday, May 18, beginning at 8:30 a.m.  

Certain roads around Community Park and the Hinsbrook subdivision will be closed briefly while the runners complete their race. Organizers say the race should be completed by noon. During the race volunteers and police officers will be on hand to guide runners through the route.

If you’re reading this before noon Saturday, you can save $5 off the race fee by registering online. More than 500 runners are expected to participate.

The 10K race will begin at the northwest corner of the Dairen Community Park and will proceed along the following route:

• 71st Street to Richmond Avenue;
• South on Richmond Avenue and following Cherokee Drive to Darien Lane;
• North on Darien Lane and following Timber Lane to Seminole Drive;
• North on Seminole Drive to 71st Street;
• West on 71st Street to Beechnut Lane to Hinsbrook Avenue;
• East on Hinsbrook Avenue to Wilmette Avenue;
• North on Willmette Ave. to 69th Street on 71st to Wilmette Avenue;
• North on Wilmette Avenue to 69th to Bentley Avenue;
• South on Bentley Avenue to 72nd Street;
• West on 72nd Richmond Avenue;
• South on Richmond Avenue to Seminole Drive;
• North on Seminole to Wilmette Ave.;
• North on Wilmette to 67th on Alabama to Chestnut Lane;
• West on Chestnut to path connecting to Bentley Avenue,
• South on Bentley to 71st Community Park.

The 5K race will begin at the northwest corner of Darien Community Park and will proceed along the following route:

• 71st Avenue and following Cherokee Drive to Darien Lane;
• North on Darien Lane and following Timber Lane to Seminole Drive;
• North on Seminole Drive to 71st Street;
• 71st Street to Beechnut Lane to Hinsbrook Avenue;
• East on Hinsbrook Avenue to Wilmette Avenue;
• North on Wilmette Avenue to 69th Bentley Avenue;
• South on Bentley Avenue to 71st to northwest corner of Darien Community Park.

The 1-mile fun run/walk will proceed along the following route:

• 71st north on Richmond to Maple;
• East on Maple to Bentley;
• South on Bentley to 71st east on 71st Street to Richmond;
• Richmond Street to northwest corner of Darien Community Park.
