17-Room Hinsdale Home Chicago Mag's "Sale of the Week"

The Maple Street house sold to a so-far-unknown buyer for $4.5 million, according to Chicago Magazine.

A 17-room home at 525 W. Maple St. in Hinsdale was sold Dec. 9 for $4.5 million, according to an article published online by Chicago Magazine's Dennis Rodkin Tuesday morning, and was Rodkin's "Sale of the Week."

The house, according to the Chicago Magazine article, was purchased by former Andrew Corp. CEO Ralph Faison and wife Patricia in 2003 for nearly $5 million. Rodkin writes the couple sold the home at a 6.4 percent loss.

The buyers are not yet identified in public records, according to Rodkin.

"This 17-room home in Hinsdale has an indoor pool, eight bedrooms and, according to the listing sheet, 'four truly epic levels'—which may be the selling agent’s way of saying that the basement pub is as lavish as the hunt room–styled family room," Rodkin wrote. "The listing pictures made the house look like the stage of a big-costumed epic film, with its heavy drapes, spiraling stairs, and elaborate wood, wallpaper, and stone finishes."

Rodkin writes the home is located on a two-thirds-of-an-acre lot just a few blocks from downtown. Its construction was completed in 2003 by J.P. McMahon Builders.

The Faison house went on the market at the start of 2011, according to Rodkin, originally listed at $6.5 million. The asking price dropped to just under $6 million a few weeks later.

The home's listing agent is Christopher Crawford of Sotheby’s International Realty.
