Jeff Bean from "Act on Bullying" at CHMS March 12th at 9:00 am.

The CHMS PTO is proud to present Jeff Bean at our upcoming general meeting this Wednesday March 12th at 9:00 a.m.  This event is sponsored by Officer Jenkins from our own Clarendon Hills Police Department.  Here is more information on our speaker and the program he has created, as well as his website link.

Act on Bullying was created and founded by Jeff Bean, a Police Officer with the Village of Woodridge, Illinois.  Jeff has 14 years of law enforcement experience, the majority of which has been spent working with juveniles.  He conducts presentations on the topics of bullying and cyber-bullying.  These seminars are available to parents, youth, and school faculty to help educate them on the dangers of this epidemic.

The presentations are research-based and current.  They offer solutions for parents; recognition and response training for school faculty and administration; as well as prevention tips and coping skills for our youth on how to deal with the dangers of bullying and cyber-bullying.  Statistics show that 15% of all school absences are related to bullying, and kids who have been cyber-bullied are 1.9 times more likely to attempt suicide.  These statistics aren't going to improve unless we all make the effort to Act on Bullying!

Officer Bean recently received the 2012 Joseph T. Gurak Memorial "Juvenile Officer of the Year" award from the DuPage County Juvenile Officers' Association for his outstanding work with the youth of DuPage County. He is actively creating new and interactive ways to help educate our children, and keep them safe.
