Frigid Temps, Snow to Disrupt Wednesday Morning Commute: NWS

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Cook and DuPage counties from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter weather advisory for Cook and DuPage counties from 12 a.m. to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Two to four inches of snow are expected to fall during that time period, potentially wreaking havoc during the morning rush hour, and frigid temperatures are expected to continue. The overnight low Tuesday into Wednesday is 11 degrees, with wind-chill values dropping as low as -1.

Temperatures are expected to rise to around 18 degrees by 10 a.m. Wednesday. Wind-chill values during the day will dip as low as -12.

"Snow will result in treacherous traveling conditions for the Wednesday morning rush hour, with snowfall rates of up to a half-inch per hour possible with the most intense snow," the NWS advisory reads. " Very cold temperatures will make regular non-treated road salt less effective, with the current bitter cold resulting in snow immediately accumulating on roadways."

Wednesday night's low temperature is expected to sit around -3, with wind-chill values as low as -17.
