Football: No. 11 Hinsdale Central Opens Against Bolingbrook Friday

The Raiders will be a tough opening-night opponent for the highly ranked Hinsdale Central Red Devils.

Who: Hinsdale Central (0-0) vs. Bolingbrook (0-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Where: Dickinson Field at Hinsdale Central, 5500 S. Grant St.

Last year: Hinsdale Central went to the playoffs for the second straight season in 2012 after a 7-2 regular season. They lost to Oak Park River Forest in their first-round playoff game at home.

Notable Red Devils returning in 2013 are senior offensive lineman Brian Allen, who will play college ball at Michigan State, and senior tight end Ian Bunting, a future Michigan Wolverine despite an injury plagued 2012.

The Chicago Sun-Times has the Red Devils at No. 11 in its 2013 preseason rankings, while the Chicago Tribune ranked Hinsdale Central No. 14. The Trib reports that senior Chase Hamilton, a former receiver who also plays basketball and tennis, will be the Red Devils' starting quarterback to start the season.

Bolingbrook will likely be a tough test in Friday's opener. The Raiders finished 8-3 in 2012 after an 8A state title in 2011, and are the No. 23 team in the state according to the Sun-Times.

Players to watch include senior cornerback Parrker Westphal, "a four-star prospect who has 20 major-college scholarship offers and is ranked among the top 250 players nationally by Rivals.com," according to the Sun-Times, and junior quarterback Quincy Woods.
