Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies’ One Book/One Community Program
Local Synagogue Hosting Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies’ First Program In The Western Suburbs
Lombard, IL – Congregation Etz Chaim, Dupage County’s only Reform Judaism synagogue, has been chosen as one of the suburban sites for Chicago’s Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies One Book/One Community program featuring Mary Glickman, author of One More River. Scheduled on Sunday, December 2nd from 2:30 – 4:00 PM, the program is part of Spertus’ celebration of National Jewish Book Month. One More River is a finalist for the Jewish Book Award in Fiction. Program participation is free; however, RSVPs are appreciated and can be made at http://spertus.edu/OneBook-authorevent-2.
While there has been outreach to the suburbs north of Chicago, this marks the first time Spertus is offering programming in the western suburbs. “We are very excited to be part of it and hope that this relationship continues,” says Barbara Turner, co-chair of Congregation Etz Chaim’s Lifelong Learning Committee.
During the program, Glickman will share insights and background information on her novel, which uses an alternating chapter narrative style to move between the 1920’s and 1960’s in telling the story of Mickey Moe Levy, his love, Laura Needleman, and the secrets from his deceased father’s past.
A reception and book signing will also take place in the synagogue’s Stoller-Soreff Social Hall.
