More than half of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are overweight and at risk of numerous health problems. This year's Run the Ridge 5K Run/Walk hopes to bring attention to the benefits of fitness programs for youths with ASD.

Hundreds of runners throughout the Chicagoland area will join forces during the 8th Annual Run the Ridge 5K Run/Walk & Kids' Dash on Saturday, June 23, 2012. This year's race is presented by diamond sponsor Codilis & Associates P.C., and all net proceeds from the race will benefit Turning Pointe Autism Foundation in Naperville; a not-for-profit organization that offers a comprehensive approach to work with families and schools to provide effective programs that allows access to communication, self-management and life skills, and development of a vocational path for adulthood.

The race will start and finish at Burr Ridge Parkway at County Line Square on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 8:00a.m. Accelerated Rehabilitation of Burr Ridge will provide Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainers doing pre and post-race stretching with all race participants.

"We are pleased to announce Val Warner, host of Windy City Live on ABC 7 will Emcee this years race. Race day festivities include a free Kids 100 Yard Dash and activities for children and adults of all ages. Our Kids' Corral will feature an obstacle course moon jump, balloon artist, and face painter; while Kids' Fitness will have an array of games and activities that will be supervised by the Burr Ridge Park District. Dayna Huor will entertain the crowd with martial arts moves before and after the race to keep the energy levels high," says Michelle Mugnolo, Director of Marketing at Right Fit Sport Fitness Wellness.

The cost of the 5K Run/Walk is $35.00 per person, which includes a Dry-Fit T-Shirt and goodie bag with giveaways from local businesses. This is the eighth year Right Fit Sport Fitness Wellness has orchestrated this beneficial event and hopes to exceed prior year registrants by securing upwards of 600 runners.
