The O'Brien School for the Maasai is seeking contributions of items needed to ship to the school in Tanzania. The number one item requested is regular oatmeal. They need 800 boxes to feed the children for the year. Following that you will see various school supplies etc.  Any amount of these items will be greatly appreciated as we only send one container per year.

Other items needed:

• Pink Erasers
• Pencils (not sharpened)
• Pencil Sharpeners
• Rulers
• Index cards
• Loose-leaf paper (COLLEGE Ruled)
• Handwriting paper
• Construction paper
• Spiral Notebooks
• Expo or Bic Dry Erase Markers  
• Sports Equipment (basketballs, soccer balls, others)
• Used Laptops
• 2 motorbikes (for volunteers to get to town and not use expensive van)
• Helmets for motorbikes, various sizes 

The school is also requesting at least 25 copies of each of the following books. The school hopes to have the upper classes start reading books as a part of their English curriculum. The following books are recommended for children with English as a second language (ESL). 

• Charlotte’s Web (only need 5-10 more copies) 
• Stuart Little 
• Matilda 
• Sounder 
• The Outsiders

The O'Brien School for the Maasai was started by Kellie and Heather O'Brien of Hinsdale in 2006 and now has 320 children enrolled in grades K through 7. Each year a shipping container leaves Hinsdale with generous donations from the community for the school.
