Why toast the new year in the same old way? Create personalized champagne glasses, and make the midnight hour special. Glass etching is a great way to bring life into a plain piece of glassware. A well-etched piece of stemware adds a personal and elegant look to the dinner table and makes for a great conversation piece. For this project, I decided to make a pair of champagne glasses for my cousin and his fiancée to celebrate the beginning of their first year as a married couple. I wrote their names and the year on the glasses. When choosing a design for your glasses, think about the purpose …

The Big Day is over and the presents are all unwrapped, and now comes that cumbersome task of taking down the Christmas tree. If you have a live tree and are planning on taking it down during the final week of December, you can have it hauled away with your trash pick-up during the month of January. According to Richard Van Der Molen of Allied Waste, tree pick-up for residents living in Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills is scheduled to take place during the early weeks of the New Year. "Christmas tree removal will occur in the first two weeks of January, beginning the week of January 2 and will…

Holiday magic was in the air as the streets lit up for Hinsdale's 45th annual Christmas Walk Friday evening. Scores of people braved the freezing temperatures and gusty winds, bundling up even their babies and toddlers to enjoy the village festivities. Sponsored by the Hinsdale Chamber of Commerce, all village businesses were invited to keep their doors open to the public from 4-8 p.m. Many provided an "open house" with warm drinks and cookies, but folks quickly formed lines outside the doors of Hinsdale Bank & Trust, when word spread that the popular, furry Webkins were being handed out for …
Turkey Day may officially be over, but many Hinsdale residents are just beginning to cook up their holiday feast for friends and family this weekend. And just who will most likely wind up as the main guest at their dinner table? Tom Turkey, of course! According to Crain's Chicago Business, Hinsdale is one of the top three communities in DuPage County to buy and hunt turkeys. That's good for the folks who enjoy them, but maybe not so much for the turkeys. A chuckling Ron Ludwigson, owner of Kramer Foods, 16 Grant Sq., remarked, "That's funny, we do sell a lot of turkeys during the holidays, …
