School District 181 Shares Important Dates Regarding April Board Election

Starting on Monday, September 24, nominating petition forms for the Tuesday, April 9, 2013 Board of Education election in Community Consolidated School District 181 were made available in the office of the Board Secretary in the District Administration Center, located at 6010 South Elm Street in Burr Ridge. The district prepared candidate information packets, including petition forms, the State of Illinois Candidate’s Guide and items from the Illinois Association of School Boards.

A school board candidate’s petition must be filed in the board secretary’s office no earlier than 8:00 a.m. on Monday, December 17. The closing date of the petition filing is now 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26. (The date was originally set for December 24, but was modified per Public Act 97-1134. The Administration Center will be closed on December 24.) Candidates’ names will appear on the election ballot in the order in which their nominating papers are received in the secretary’s office. Any candidates in line when the office opens on the first day for filing, and any nominations received in the first mail that day, are to be regarded as filed simultaneously. In the event two or more candidates qualify for this “simultaneous filing,” a lottery will be held to determine the order of their names on the ballot. District 181 plans to hold the lottery, if needed, on Friday, December 28 at 9:00 a.m. The last day for filing objections to a candidate’s nominating papers in the office of the Board Secretary will now be Friday, January 4, 2013.

Three seats on the seven-member board will be filled at the April 9, 2013 election. Candidates elected will serve four-year terms expiring in April 2017.

For further information on becoming a candidate in the April 9 board election, contact the Board Secretary at (630) 887-1070, Ext. 232. More information about the nature and duties of serving on a school board can be obtained from the Illinois Association of School Boards at www.iasb.com.
