UPDATE: D181, Hinsdale Central Announce Snow-Related Cancellations
All afternoon and evening District 181 events as well as several Hinsdale Central sporting events, including a home swim meet, have been canceled Friday.
Updated at 4:52 p.m.:
District 181 has canceled all Friday afternoon and evening activities, including clubs and sports, due to hazardous driving conditions, director of communications Rita DuChateau said.
DuChateau said the district has been warned the heaviest snowfall is expected in the early evening hours.
As far as Hinsdale Central sporting events, the boys home swim meet against Glenbard West, the girls bowling match at Hinsdale South, and the JV girls gymnastics meet at York have all been canceled, according to a message on the athletic department's website.
The boys JV swim team's Saturday meet at Proviso West has been postponed.
The Red Devils' boys wrestling meet at Lyons Township and the boys basketball game versus LT at Hinsdale Central are still on.
District 86 executive assistant Meredith Lannert said in an email no district-wide activities were canceled.
The Hinsdale Police Department will not grant overnight parking permission Friday night, according to a 4:33 p.m. post on the department's Facebook page.
"Snow is coming down good," the post reads. "As the Village plows work to clear the streets, use caution near plows."
The National Weather Service (NWS) has a Winter Storm Warning in effect Friday until midnight and is predicting 4 to 7 inches of snow to accumulate by then.
NWS is warning that snow will fall at a rate as high as one inch per hour during the day, leading to decreased visibility for drivers. NWS predicts a "particularly treacherous" Friday afternoon commute and warns flights out of O'Hare and Midway could be disrupted.
The snowfall is expected to be heaviest in the early evening hours, gradually slowing down as the night goes on.
