Runners and Walkers Turn Out To Support Rotary Run
Parents, kids, dogs, teachers (and Spiderman) particpate in Sunday's Rotary Run.
Some ran on two legs, some ran on four during Sunday's Rotary Run Charity Classic in Hinsdale.
Residents of Burr Ridge, Hinsdale and surrounding communities came out on a crisp, sunny morning for the 16th annual 5k run and walk, 3k run and mutt strut. The event was sponsored by Burr Ridge Bank and the $30 registration benefited the Hinsdale Rotary Club, Hinsdale Humane Society, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and the District 181 Foundation.
Michele Kapp of Burr Ridge said she likes the event because it's something for the whole family.
"The kids can bring their families out," said Kapp, community service chairperson for the Elm School Parent Teacher Organization. "And sometimes this is the first introduction to community service for the kids to get involved in."
Students from each of the 9 schools in District 181 participated in the event as well as students from St. Isaac Jogues and District 86. The Lane School had the most students, topping off around 120. About 20 students from Elm School joined their parents and teachers.
And some residents just came out to enjoy the autumn weather and a good run.
"I feel good like a super hero," said Hinsdale resident Jamie Griffin upon completing the 5k run in a Spiderman costume.
Griffin said he was glad he came out to support the community.
