One minute, there were 8,000 multi-colored plastic eggs spread across a portion of Katherine Legge Memorial Park in Hinsdale. The next minute, they were gone, divided into a countless number of Easter baskets.

A large crowd of kids and their parents, spurred by wonderful weather, attended the annual Hinsdale Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, which was put on by the Village of Hinsdale Parks and Recreation Department, The Community House, and the Hinsdale Center for the Arts.

The hunt began just after 10:30 a.m. Participants, separated into age groups, gathered as many eggs as they could. Most of the eggs contained candy, but some had special prizes inside.

Who was at the hunt? To me, the way the kids lined up and had to wait for the start reminded me of a battle scene from Braveheart.

I was disappointed in the adults at the hunt, I watched parents grabbing eggs out of little kids hands and shoveling eggs into baskets. Who was this hunt for, the kids or their parents? My 20 month old got 2 eggs because parents were grabbing them before he could. And we left the hunt early because I was afraid of him getting trampled.

It's too bad that was your experience, KB. In Clarendon Hills they attempted to set limits on how many eggs kids could grab so that it would be more evenly spread. (Not sure how successful they were, though.)

It is a great event and I really appreciate all the work that goes in to it. Can they perhaps spread it out over a wider area and/or separate the age groups into different areas of the park? We have a two year old -- she didn't get any eggs because there were so many people condensed in one space. She couldn't get past them and by that time she waited, the older kids from the other age groups came and in and took the eggs. I do give credit to some of the parents who noted their kids had more than their share of eggs and offered to give them to the younger children.
