According to Veterinary Pet Insurance Co (VPI) and Petfinder.com, a roundup of the most popular pet names in 2011 saw a new top name for cats, although the trend to use traditionally human names continues.
The top five cat names in 2011 were Bella (new winner), Max, Chloe, Oliver and Lucy. Rounding out the top 10 were Shadow, Smokey, Tiger, Charlie and Tigger.
So while human names rule the roost for dogs, there are still lots of traditional "animal" names in the cat world.
Take our poll, add your cat's name in the comments if it did not make the list, and most importantly, post a photo of that kitty!
In last week's Patch Poll about dog names, area dog owners do not necessarily follow the national trend. Of the five most popular names nationwide, the fifth one, Molly, is the most popular, garnering 12 percent of the vote. The most popualr choice: Other. See some local dogs and their names here.

We didn't name our cat, Felix. Our daughter adopted him while she was in college. He came to us with that moniker but, it fits him. He is a constant source of amusement and mischief.

We have a cat, Thunder. Our dog was afraid of storms and was scared to death of the cat when we first got him - hence Thunder. The other cat is Kernal due to his coloring
