New Assisted Living at Former Washington Square Site to Open Next Month
The public is being given an opportunity to take a look at the renovations to the architecturally-significant structure at two open houses this week.
Eve Assisted Living at 10 N. Washington St. in Hinsdale won’t open its doors officially until Jan. 2, but interested community members can get a sneak peak at the facility during a pair of open houses this week. The first at the site of the former Washington Square Retirement Community will be held Thursday from 5-7:30 p.m. and another open house will take place Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. The public is invited to view the facilities and meet the new staff during these times.
The interior of the structure has been completely renovated to accommodate the higher care needs of its senior residents while retaining much of the original structure, designed by the nationally-renowned architect Harry Weese. The Chicago Tribune once identified Weese as the architect who “shaped Chicago’s skyline and the way the city thought about everything from the lakefront to its treasure-trove of historical buildings.”
The project represents the culmination of 18 months of planning and collaboration between the Washington Square Board of Directors, the Village of Hinsdale, Lakeside Bank, Absolute Architecture, and the Hinsdale community.
“We are delighted to see Eve re-purpose the existing building and provide a model that will continue to serve the seniors of Hinsdale and surrounding area for years to come,” Washington Square Board President Carol Wroble said.
Eve will provide a full range of assisted living services to seniors over the age of 55, ranging from those who need minimum care levels to the more intensive care required for the memory impaired. The company said each resident of Eve will receive a personalized experience by having the facilities and range of services available to meet his or her desired or required lifestyle.
Eve's amenities will include a full service salon with massage, movie theater, state-of-the-art fitness center, club room and spacious suites, some exceeding 850 square feet.
Eve is near Hinsdale Adventist Hinsdale Hospital and is within walking distance of the Hinsdale Metra Station, downtown shops, restaurants, and library. The company said its philosophy of care focuses upon the concept of social wellness.
“It is our belief that health and wellness depend on an individual’s ability to remain active and engaged,” Eve Executive Director Mary Helen Ekstam said.
To this end, Ekstam said Eve has developed social and wellness programming centering on evidence- based care practices, social interaction, and nutrition.
