Car Broken Into

A woman reported at 11:30 a.m. that, while attending an estate sale in the 70 block of Norfolk Avenue, someone smashed the window of her car and stole her purse. The purse contained $100 in cash, two credit cards and a checkbook, among other things.

One of the credit cards was later used to purchase approximately $1,000 worth of Walgreens gift cards at a Westmont store location by an uknown blonde female who was seen on security footage. 

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

FRIDAY, AUG. 10

Mercedes Stolen, Recovered

A resident from the 400 block of 57th Court reported to police at 6:31 a.m. that some time the night before an unknown suspect stole the resident's gray 2011 Mercedes GL450 SUV from his open garage. The keys had been left in the unlocked car.

At 7:28 a.m., using the SUV's GPS system, the Mercedes was located unharmed in the parking lot of a nearby Willowbrook apartment complex at the corner of Holmes Avenue and 59th Street. It was the second time a stolen vehicle turned up in that parking lot, but police say there is no known suspect at this time.

2 Teens Charged with Alcohol Possession

Dante O. Coleman, 19, of the 7700 block of Woodward Avenue, Woodridge, and James J. Wiley-Benes, 19, of the 300 block of Legion Drive, Lexington, Ky., were charged with illegal possession of alcohol after police said they came upon the two teens walking through Prospect Park with alcohol at 11:56 p.m.

The two suspects were released to appear in court.

THURSDAY, AUG. 9

Mailboxes Uprooted

Residents of the 200 block of Woodstock Avenue reported during the morning hours that three mailboxes in their block were pulled out of the ground by unknown suspects some time the night before.

All three mailboxes were left on the ground nearby.

Dirt Bike Snatched

A $1,000 red-and-white Honda dirt bike was stolen while the owner had it on display for sale in the 400 block 55th Street at 2:58 p.m.

The chain that was holding the bike to a fence along the road was cut. There are no suspects.
