Lane School Hosting Bone Marrow Drive for Hinsdale Leukemia Patient
Andrew Park was diagnosed in March 2009 and needs a transplant as soon as possible.
A bone marrow donation drive for Hinsdale resident and Leukemia patient Andrew Park will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Lane School.
Andrew, who turns 17 years old Saturday, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia in 2009 and now has Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
“This type of cancer, there’s no cure for it,” said Jennifer DelGiudice, a Lane School parent who is helping organize Saturday’s event. “We need a bone marrow transplant and Andrew has not found a match yet.”
DelGiudice said time is of the essence. Andrew needs a transplant right away.
“It’s really a life or death situation right now,” she said.
Bone marrow donations are more intense than blood donations. It’s an outpatient procedure that requires two days of recovery. Volunteers will be signing possible donors up in The Lane School gym Saturday and providing more information about Andrew’s situation and what it means to be a donor.
For more information on Andrew, click here to visit the Park family’s blog, which updates those interested on Andrew’s illness. DelGiudice also recommended visiting www.bonemarrowtest.com to get more info on bone marrow donations and to see if you’re a possible match for Andrew.

I was out of town on Saturaday. Is there an alternative date to see if I can help someone?
