Hinsdale Fire Department Prepares for Blizzard After Effects
The department received 15 calls overnight during the blizzard.
With additional personnel on duty in anticipation of the storm, the Hinsdale Fire Department responded to about 15 calls that came in last night.
“We brought some extra people in so we were ready for everything,” Assistant Chief Tim McElroy said Wednesday afternoon.
Calls included an elderly resident who fell, as well as activated carbon monoxide and fire alarms, he said.
“Some of that was related to the wind and stuff,” McElroy said.
So far, things have been running smoothly, he said.
“We had an action plan worked out with the village and it’s worked out pretty well,” McElroy said.
Now, the department is preparing for the after effects of the blizzard.
“We’re kind of just bracing for the cold,” McElroy said. “The next big concern is everybody shoveling.”
Typically the department receives a couple cardiac-related calls following a snow storm, he said.
“That’s the next worry,” McElroy said.
