Hinsdale Central Among Top 5 High Schools in Chicago Area: Chicago Sun-Times

The Chicago Sun-Times this week ranked their Top 50 high schools, as well as elementary and middle schools, and local schools had a strong presence.

Hinsdale Central is the fifth-best high school in the Chicago area, according to the Chicago Sun-Times Top 50 rankings released this week.

The top three area high schools according to the Sun-Times—Northside College Prep, Payton College Prep, and Whitney Young—are located in Chicago. New Trier was No. 4, just ahead of Hinsdale Central.

District 86's other high school, Hinsdale South, was No. 34 on the list.

The Sun-Times says rankings are based on 2012 reading and math ISAT and PSAE results of students at each school, measured against a state average.

"The rankings include percentiles, reflecting the percentage of Illinois students who scored the same as or worse than the average student at each ranked school," reads the full explanation of how the Sun-Times ranked the schools.

The Sun-Times also ranked elementary and middle schools, and District 181 schools were all over those Top 50 lists

As measured by test scores. From a practical standpoint, the school should get very low scores for being racially intolerant, along with the City itself.
