Get Out: Beer Tasting, Live Jazz and More

Cold beer and cool jazz highlight the weekend.

 

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here
time. Check our picks for the activities to hit and new bars/restaurants/shops to explore.

1. WINTER JAZZ FEST
Where/When: 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday on the McAninch Arts Center Mainstage,
College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd, Glen Ellyn.

Why Go: Friday's show is Henry Johnson and The Organ Express, and Two for Brazil: Paulinho Garcia and Greg Fishman. Saturday's headliner is the Ramsey Lewis Trio.
Pricing: Friday: $30, $28 for seniors, $20 for youth. Saturday: $50-75, $48-73 for seniors, $40-65 for youth.

2. LIVE MUSIC AT COOPER'S HAWK
Where/When: 7 p.m. Thursday at Cooper's Hawk, 510 Village Center Drive, Burr Ridge.
Why Go: Singer/songwriter pianist Stan Karcz entertains.

3. FORMER NFL GREAT GIVES READING
Where/When: 7 p.m. Friday at Anderson's Bookshop, 123 W Jefferson Ave, Naperville.
Why Go: Tim Green will give a reading and book signing from The Big Time. A bestselling author, lawyer and former Atlanta Falcons defensive end writes about his struggle to reach his dreams as he discovers the identity of his real father.

4. CLASSIC GUITAR COLLECTIONS
Where/When: 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Schoenherr Art Gallery at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville.
Why Go: More than 60 Fender Stratocasters and Gibson Les Pauls, along with Flying Vees, Sunbursts, Hollowbodies and other guitars from the collections of Marguerite and Rich Waters of Crystal Lake and David Kelsch of Naperville will be displayed.
Pricing: Free.

5. MICROBREW BEER WITH FOOD PAIRINGS
Where/When: 1-4 p.m. Saturday at Nicksons Eatery, 30 S. La Grange Rd, La Grange.
Why Go: Event features live music from local musicians Bobby Georges and Matthew Arendt who will be performing rock and blues. RSVP at Nicksons or call 708-354-4995
Pricing: $20.
